Section 1: In the first section of five people you meet in heaven is when Eddie is in his final hour of his life and how he dies.
The author is showing us that we need to live life to the fullest because we never know when our time on earth is up. As Eddie is about to die the author says, “The last hour of Eddies life was spent…” (Albom 1). This is letting the audience know that Eddie is in his last hour on earth. This is showing that you need to live life to the fullest because the audience knows he is about to be killed but he doesn’t. Also it says how we never know when our time is up.
Section 2: The second section is when Eddie is first in heaven right after he dies and he meets the first person, this person is The Blue Man. the Blue Man Teaches Eddie to look at life from two different angles.
This section’s theme is saying that we need to look at things in life from two different angles, because it might affect someone else besides you. In the book the author says “ take one story, viewed from two different angles” (Albom 42). This quote from the text tells the audience that just because something doesn’t affect you doesn’t That is why you should look at something from two different angles.
Section 3: In the third section Eddie meets the second person that he is supposed to meet in heaven, this person is Eddie captain when he was in the army. The captain tells Eddie that there is life after death.
For the third section the theme is dying is not the end of everything, we have another life after life on earth. “What happens on earth is only the beginning” (Albom 91), this is what the author says to try to let the audience know that there is life after life on earth. This is showing that dying is not the end, it is only the end of life on earth.
Section 4: In the fourth section Eddie meets the third person in heaven which is Ruby, the person that the pier Eddie worked on was named after. Ruby teaches Eddie about forgiveness.
The author is saying that everyone needs to have forgiveness or be forgiving because anyone can leave this world at anytime and that is why you need to always be nice and forgiving to everybody. Ruby says to Eddie “ you need to forgive your father” (Albom 142) because Eddie and his father were mad at each other and didn’t speak to each other when his dad died. This shows that you need to be nice and forgiving to people even if they make you angry or frustrated because that person or you can die at anytime.
Section 5: In the fifth section Eddie meets the fourth person, his true love Marguerite and she tells him about love.
Love is endless, it endures forever. The author tells the audience that there is no end to love, once you love something you love it even after death. Marguerite tells Eddie “Life has to end” “love doesn’t.” (Albom 173). This should show the audience that in heaven, after your life on earth you can still love what you loved on earth.
Section 6: In the final section Eddie meets the fifth and last person in heaven, this person is Tala a little girl that was in a burning building when Eddie was in the army. Eddie tried to save her but his captain shot him in the leg. Tala tells him that everyones life has a purpose.
Everyones life has a purpose, even if you don’t know your purpose you still have one and will find it out one day. ““Is where you were supposed to be,” she said, and then she touched his shirt patch with a small laugh and added two words, “Eddie Main-ten-ance”” (Albom 191). This shows the audience that Eddies purpose in life was to be at Ruby pier keeping the children safe.
